The acoustic performance of the clouds are measured in a reverberation chamber at ISVR Southampton.
In order to ensure that the stated performance can be relied upon and compared fairly with other acoustic absorbers, the testing is carried out in accordance with BS EN ISO 354: 2003 ‘Acoustics Measurement of sound absorption in a reverberation room’.
The results of this testing can be seen here
As a consequence of their irregular shape, the clouds are tested and reported as a value (absorption coefficient) per item rather than the more normal reporting of absorption per square meter of material. This simply means that the clouds are reported as a value equivalent to Xm2 of a 100% absorber.
The IOA introduced the Sustainable Design Award as they felt there was a need to recognise and celebrate contributions towards building a sustainable future. Barry Gibbs, IOA President, said: “We are proud to announce Woolly Shepherd as the first ever winner of our Sustainable Design Award. The Woolly Shepherd demonstrated exceptional work within this area while also demonstrating a continued focus on improvement in the form of external sustainability audits. Their company ethos makes them a deserving winner and a valuable contributor to sustainability in the field of acoustics.”
